Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation ( EGPC ) is an Egyptian state-owned company headquartered in Cairo .

The company is under the control of the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources , whose current minister is Abdullah Ghorab . (As of May 2011)

The Ministry controls five state-owned companies in the energy sector:

  • Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC),
  • Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS),
  • Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM),
  • Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (GANOPE) and
  • Egyptian General Authority for Mineral Resources.

EGPC extracts and produces petroleum , particularly in the Red Sea area . Among other things, the state company is working with the Egyptian government in a concession to the Russian subsidiary LUKoil Overseas of LUKoil in the development of an oil field ( WEEM field ) together. A subsidiary is the engineering service provider ENPPI .
