The former public lavatory at Bochum City Park is a toilet block between Bochum City Park and the Bochum Museum - Art Collection . It was built in 1925 using expressionist brick architecture. At this point it was preceded by systems made of wood and cast iron .

In 1997 the building was placed under monument protection. In the same year, renovation and reconstruction took place with the support of the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Nature Conservation, Heritage and Culture . The flushing gutters of public convenience were partially removed, but the blue remained tiles fully preserved indoors, signage and outdoor lighting. An entrance room was added to the side.

On November 23, 1997, the renovated house was presented to the public. Since 1998 it has been the seat of the Kortum Society . Since its functional change, the house has served as an event location with space for up to 40 guests and houses the library of the Heimatverein with over 1,500 volumes. A similar function is also intended for the public lavatory on Herner Strasse .
