The office building of the former industrial credit bank IKB is located on Carl-Theodor-Strasse at the corner of Kasernenstrasse in Düsseldorf and was built in 1955 based on designs by Rudolf Wolters and Karl Berlitz in place of the old theater that was destroyed in the war . After the industrial bank had changed its seat, it was converted into the “Galileo” office building by Helmut Hentrich and partner HPP by December 2002. The entrances are at Carl-Theodor-Straße 6 and Kasernenstraße 40.

description

Jürgen Wiener counts the building as one of the examples of the “representative building construction of the early post-war period [in the style] of neoclassical buildings with perforated facades made of travertine and shell limestone as well as one of the buildings that “have since disappeared or have been disfigured beyond recognition” and “in 1985 Would have found inclusion in the architecture guide ” .

Jörg Heimeshoff describes the building as significant in terms of urban planning. He notices in particular the facade grid and historicizing details. The two architects Rudolf Wolters and Karl Berlitz had already worked together in the Todt organization:

The curved structure of the industrial credit bank at Kasernenstrasse 40 (city center) designed by Rudolf Wolters and Karl Berlitz is initially of some importance in terms of urban development. The gridded building from 1955 is also interesting because of the design of the grid, the relief of which can appear very lively due to the shadow formation, and because of some historicizing details. Rudolf Wolters and Karl Berlitz, who worked together in the 'Organization Todt' during World War II, ran a very successful architecture office in the 1950s "
