The former building of the "Carl Maria von Weber" music academy is located at Blochmannstrasse 2-4 in Dresden . The building, which was built in 1950/1951 “based on the traditional Dresden construction method” in the style of socialist classicism , is “peculiar, sober beauty”. A sandstone rustication and a vertical structure with pilaster strips on the upper floors are hallmarks of the building. Today the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden is located in the former Wettin high school .

description

The building was built by Emil Leibold from 1950 to 1951 on a rectangular floor plan with 21 classrooms and an auditorium with 100 seats for the music college founded in 1952 . The college, named after Carl Maria von Weber , was to train musicians, conductors, singers, composers and musicologists who would then be active in the Philharmonie and Staatskapelle , the two Dresden orchestras. A rustica made of sandstone is in front of the ground floor. The two upper floors are divided by pilaster strips . On top of it is a mezzanine floor with a flat, cantilevered hipped roof.
