The former train barracks is a building in Darmstadt .

Architecture and history

The former train barracks at Eschollbrücker Straße 42 was built between 1914 and 1918 according to plans by the architects H. Kolb and H. Schumacher. The last remaining construction section of the former barracks is stylistically part of the local architecture. The building has 23 window axes and a wide mansard roof covered with tiles . Lattice windows and corner cuboids structure the plastered facade .

After the end of military use, the building was used as a factory and mail order warehouse. In 1989 and 1990 the building was renovated in accordance with a listed building. In May 1992 the central part of the structure burned out. The destroyed interior and the mansard roof were faithfully restored. Today the building houses several restaurants.

Monument protection

For architectural and city-historical reasons, the former train barracks are a listed building .
