Former town hall of Vlamertinge
The former town hall of Vlamertinge , a district of Ypres , was built in 1922 to a design by the architects Guillaume Veraart and Ernest Richir. The town hall has a clear neo-Flemish Renaissance style and is located on Sixplein. On the right side of the building is the ranger's house and the former fire station. There used to be a school on site.
It is the second town hall that Vlamertinge knows. The original is a design by the architect G. Lernould from Ypres. Field Marshal Ferdinand Foch and John French met here during the First World War . The building was on the corner of Poperingseweges and H. Verrieststraat, but was destroyed by the impact of a trolleybus .
The square in front of the former town hall was named after Joris Six, a clergyman who went to the Congo as a bishop .
