The Wakeman River is a 64 km long tributary of the Pacific Ocean on the west coast of the Canadian province of British Columbia .

The Wakeman River rises south of Selman Lake on the western edge of the Ha-Iltzuk Icefield in the Pacific Ranges , a part of the southern Coast Mountains . It flows mainly in a southerly direction through the mountains. It includes the rivers Catto Creek and Atwaykellesse River , both from the left. The Wakeman River finally flows into the head end of Wakeman Sound , a side bay in the northwest of Kingcome Inlet . The Wakeman River drains an area of approximately 770 km². The mean discharge 11 km above the mouth is 79.7 m³ / s. The highest discharges of the year are usually measured between May and July.

The river was named after its estuary, the Wakeman Sound . The Wakeman Sound was named in 1866 by Captain Daniel Pender of the Royal Navy after William Plowden Wakeman, who worked at the Esquimalt naval shipyard near Victoria from 1866 to 1872 .
