Badge of honor of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany

The badge of honor of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany was awarded by the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was available in the following variants:

  • Badge of honor for 40 years of membership in workers' parties and the
  • Badge of honor for 50 years of membership in workers' parties.

The badge of honor for 40 years of membership has the shape of a waving red workers flag with a flag tip. The flagpole and the edge of the flag are golden. On the flag of the first form, the four golden heads (from back to front) of Karl Marx , Friedrich Engels , Lenin and Josef Stalin can be seen. Stalin's head fell off as a result. The heads of both variants are enclosed by two laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom and are open at the top and the inscription below: SOCIALIST UNITY PARTY OF GERMANY . The back shows a horizontally soldered needle with a counter hook. There are also examples with a vertical needle.

The badge of honor for 50 years of membership is golden, round and has a diameter of 25 mm, from 1970 23.5 mm and shows a red enamelled flag with a golden frame in the middle. The number 50 can be read on its lower small flagpole , to which a curved laurel branch connects to the left and reaches up to the top of the flag. On the right edge of the medal you can read from top to bottom the inscription: SOCIALISTISCHE EINHEITSPARTEI DEUTSCHLANDS . The back shows a horizontally soldered needle with a counter hook.
