Lap of honor
A lap of honor is the running of the front of the spectators after the end of a sports competition by the winner, often also by other places.
The name comes from the fact that an additional lap in the stadium is usually completed in whole or in part after the competition has already required the stadium course to be mastered several times, usually the 400-meter track for athletics . This additional lap is completed at a reduced pace. It takes place either immediately after the competition or after a recovery phase, but mostly still in the sportswear. The participants in the lap of honor are usually recognized separately by large parts of the audience with applause . Depending on the competition, many participants also take gifts such as flower arrangements or badges of their country, usually in the form of a flag , with them. The participants are often accompanied by journalists, especially cameramen. The lap of honor is voluntary and often happens spontaneously. It is common in high-profile competitions of major sporting events.
Derived from this, the term round of honor in the figurative sense also denotes the repetition of a school year after a non-promotion .
