Eibhlin Byrne

Eibhlin Byrne is an Irish politician and was Mayor of Dublin for one year from July 2008 to June 2009 .

Byrne studied at University College Dublin . She has been a member of the Dublin City Council for Fianna Fáil since 2003 . On June 30, 2008 she was elected the new Lord Mayor of Dublin . Byrne is the 339th Lord Mayor of Dublin and the sixth woman to hold this office. Before being elected to the city council, she worked as a teacher.

On June 5, 2009 , she ran in the constituency of Dublin for a seat in the European Parliament , but could not win a seat. In the local elections that took place at the same time, however, she did not run and thus resigned from Dublin City Council in 2009. Byrne is married and has three daughters.
