The Eichsfeldisch is a transition dialect influenced by Lower Saxon-East-Faelic within the Thuringian-Upper Saxon North Thuringian , which is spoken in a large part of the Upper Field around Heilbad Heiligenstadt , Mühlhausen and Worbis .

Characteristic

The Eichsfeldische can be found in the north of Thuringia and south of the Harz around Heiligenstadt, Worbis and Mühlhausen as far as the adjoining Werra-Meißner district . It differs from the rest of Northern Thuringia through the appearance of nit instead of not along the so-called Hainichstaffel and the prefix ge instead of each-. In the northern parts of the Eichsfeld there are already pronounced Low German dialect influences, word evidence such as mant (only), mang (between), Kiepe (carrying basket) or Pott (pot) show this. There is no uniform dialect in the upper area, as there are minor differences from village to village. The language area is traversed by several linguistic lines and divides Eichsfeldisch into a Mitteleichsfeldisch (in the Leine and Wippertal) and a Westhöhen and Osthöheneichfeldisch (in the Südeichsfeld). Until the beginning of the 19th century, however, the dialect in central Eichsfeld was still assigned to northwest Thuringian and in southern Eichsfeld to western Thuringian .

The respective local dialect is commonly referred to as Eichsfelder Platt , even if the term Platt (German) only applies to the Lower German dialect bordering to the north in the Lower Field.

Others

Riemenschneider's apostle Matthias

An indirect proof of the origin or the place of birth of Tilman Riemenschneider could be provided by the linden wood figure of the apostle Matthias that he created. On the hem of the cloak there is a prayer inscription in a special dialect from Upper Bavaria (Northern Thuringian with strong Low German influences), which documents the birthplace of Riemenschneider in Heilbad Heiligenstadt.
