The egg tunnel is a pedestrian tunnel under railway tracks in the Mecklenburg municipality of Bad Kleinen , which owes its name to the egg-shaped cross-section. The technical monument connects the center of Bad Kleinen with the banks of the Schwerin outer lake .

The tunnel , which crosses under the two railway lines from Schwerin to Wismar and from Lübeck to Rostock , is located in the southwest of the municipality at the level of the official building on Gallentiner Chaussee, which runs parallel to the railway line . It measures 27.2 meters in length and has a height of 205 cm and a maximum width of 125 cm. The thickness of the brick wall is 38 cm. There is a vertical air shaft inside the tunnel.

The egg tunnel was dedicated to traffic in 1896. The construction was arranged by Armin Steyerthal, the head of the "hydropathic institute" opened in Bad Kleinen in 1885. The aim was to facilitate access from the therapeutic facility to the Schwerin outer lake through an underpass of the railway from Schwerin to Wismar, built in 1848 .

Today the building is a sight of Bad Kleinen and, as a technical monument, a tourist destination in the region.
