Eifel Rambur

The Eifeler Rambur is an old variety of the cultivated apple . It is grown as orchard and is worth preserving today. The variety was already described by Diel in 1800 as a "winter rambour". Around 1890 this unspecific name was changed by the German Pomologists Association in Eifeler Rambur. It is questionable whether she comes from the Rhineland . It is distributed throughout Germany, but has a regular distribution in the Rhineland as far as Luxembourg . It is common in the Aachen region and the Eifel . It is a typical fruit variety from Aachen orchards . The Eifeler Rambour is also called "Breitauge" by the local population.

description

The tree is large, globular and strong. It is well suited for low mountain ranges (hence the name ( Eifel )). The fruit is large to very large, irregular, often rambour-like . The surface color of the shell is bright orange-red on a grass-green, later yellow background. Expansion ½ to ¾. In contrast to the Rhenish winter rambur , the flaming is always clear. The peel points are inconspicuous. The calyx is half-open, the calyx pit is very flat and wide (hence the name "Breitauge"). The calyx pit area is flat to wavy, rarely bumpy. The sepals are wide and long, separated at the base. The stem is thick, short, sunk, the stem pit is medium deep. The flesh is white, moderately juicy, coarse-celled, moderately refreshing with weak acidity.

Harvest and use

The harvest is regularly high, starts late and tends to alternate with age . The fruit is not very susceptible. Even unkempt trees still produce large fruits. The fruits are ripe for picking from late September to mid-October.

The Eifeler Rambour is a moderate to good table apple and a good kitchen and economic apple . The shelf life is moderate, often floury from December.
