The actual nasal sacs (Peramelidae) are a family of marsupials from the order of the nasal sacs (Peramelemorphia). They live in Australia , New Guinea, and on some islands of eastern Indonesia .

General

Actual nosebags are small to medium-sized, ground-dwelling animals that owe their name to their long, pointed snout. The hind legs are longer than the front legs, which leads to a hopping mode of locomotion. Claws on the front legs are used to dig for food. They are strict loners and mostly nocturnal. They consume insects and small vertebrates as well as vegetable matter, so they are omnivores.

Systematics

These animals can be divided into three subfamilies, which differ based on the shape of the skull and the habitat:

The introduction of this taxon arose when it was discovered that pig's foot and rabbit nasal parsley, which were originally assigned to the Australian nasal pimples, are more distantly related than the two groups mentioned above.
