Eighth Avenue Place are two office buildings in Calgary , Alberta , Canada . The buildings are located on what was previously an old historic shopping center. Calgary granted planning permission in March 2006. The demolition of the old mall was completed in September 2007. The foundation work took place until summer 2008. Construction above ground began shortly thereafter.
The project comprised a 40-story building, Tower West with a height of 183 meters, and a 49-story building with a height of 202.5 meters. The first building (east) was completed in June 2011. The building will contain offices, shopping and other facilities, and a recreation park on the second floor. The architecture of the building, which was designed by Gibbs Gage Architects, will resemble the Rocky Mountains. The building will be connected to Calgary's inner-city Skywalk pedestrian crossing. The building has a parking garage for 1,000 vehicles underground.
