Eike Backhaus

Eike Backhaus (* 29. April 1965 ) is a former German cyclist and East German champion in cycling .

Athletic career

His first international success was the 1982 International Youth Cup in Forst, when he won third place in the overall ranking of the stage race. He had another and more important international success at the UCI Junior World Championships in 1982 when he won the silver medal in the team pursuit with the GDR team (with Müller, Raddatz and Carsten Wolf ). In 1983 he won his first title when he was GDR champion in the A youth class in the single pursuit . In these title fights, he and Uwe Hochfeld also won the title in two-man team driving . Backhaus started for SC Turbine Erfurt and was GDR champion in the team pursuit in 1985 . In 1986 he was also able to become vice-champion in this discipline.
