Eike Hinz

Eike Hinz (born January 26, 1945 in Goslar ) is a German Old Americanist .

Life

He studied ancient American languages ​​and cultures, ethnology, general linguistics, philosophy, sociology and psychology at the University of Hamburg (1964–1969). After receiving his doctorate in 1969 (1970), he received a post- doctoral scholarship from the German Research Foundation 1972–1974 for the "Analysis of Aztec Thought Systems" and for cognitive anthropology at the University of California, Irvine . After his habilitation ( private lecturer 1975) he taught from 1977 until his early retirement in 1991 because of an accident at work in Guatemala as a professor for ancient American languages ​​and cultures at the University of Hamburg. He took part in the cognitive science intensive course "Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing" in 1978 at Yale University . He conducted field research among the Q'anjob'al-Maya in Guatemala from 1980–1981.
