Eila Hiltunen
Eila Vilhelmina Hiltunen (born November 22, 1922 in Sortawala , † October 10, 2003 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish sculptor.
Life
Her most famous work of art is the Sibelius monument in Helsinki. A smaller preliminary study for this sculpture is on the grounds of the United Nations headquarters in New York .
Hiltunen's modern and outspoken style of sculpture initially received little attention in Finland's art scene. As a pioneer of modern sculpture in Finland and abroad, she has only been recognized in recent years. In 2001 she received the prestigious Finlandia Art Prize. In the same year, an internationally acclaimed retrospective exhibition of her works of art took place at the Didrichsen Art Museum in Helsinki, the patron of which was the Finnish President Tarja Halonen .
