content

The well-known writer Pawel Wassiljewitsch reluctantly receives Murashkina, a striving, red-faced colleague. Before the meaty lady presents her five-act act to the censors , she wants to read it to Pavel Wassiljewitsch. But he only appreciates his own works. Because he's a washcloth, so he can't say no, he gives the visitor half an hour to test her skills.

Pavel Vasilyevich asks himself: Why do I have to listen to this nonsense? Murashkina, who always comments on herself, finds one of her monologues a little too long. Pavel Vasilyevich politely contradicts this. When this woman recites the 16th appearance of the first act in a high tenor voice, the well-known author cannot prevent the big yawn. Out of sheer tiredness, Pavel Vasilyevich can no longer understand a word. The afflicted man feels as if Murashkina is swelling and melting into his cabinet.

The piece doesn't want to end. Pavel Vasilyevich is angry. He kills the aspiring author with the paperweight during her lecture. Anton Chekhov said: "The jury acquitted him."
