Faina Ranevskaya ( Russian Фаина Георгиевна Раневская , born Faina Feldman Girschewna * August 15 jul. / 27. August  1896 greg. In Taganrog , † 19 July 1984 in Moscow ) was a Soviet actress , both in tragedy and in Has starred in comedies.

Life

She played in pieces by Anton Chekhov , Alexander Ostrowski , Maxim Gorky , Ivan Krylow , Fyodor Dostoyevsky , Leo Tolstoy and others. There are only photos of their theatrical performances, as only the last three performances of Make Way for Tomorrow (by Vina Delmar), The Truth is Good, But Happiness is Better (by Alexander Ostrowski), The Curious Wilds (by John Patrick) were filmed . Faina Ranewskaja is known to a wide audience as a film actress through her roles in films such as Pyschka ( Boule de Suif ), The Man in a Shell , Metschta ( Dream ), Wesna ( Spring ), Soluschka ( Cinderella ), Elephant and Twine and many more. In 1984 she died in Moscow and was buried in the Donskoe Cemetery.

Awards

Ranevskaya received numerous awards in her career. She received the Stalin Prize three times (1949, twice in 1951), was appointed People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1947 and People's Artist of the USSR in 1961 . The asteroid (6821) Ranevskaya was named after her.
