A lousy witch (English. The Worst Witch ) is a British children's book series by Jill Murphy , which was originally published in seven volumes between 1974 and 2013. It has been filmed at least five times. Two series were created between 1998 and 2002 and since 2017 .

The witch Mildred Hoppel is willing but clumsy and a bit unlucky, so she is by far the worst student at Frau Graustein's Witch Academy.

English books

Between 1974 and 2013, a total of seven books were published in the series, each of which describes one half of the school year. In the interview, the author states that she herself was the model for the little witch.

German translations

From 1982

The series was published for the first time in 1982 under the title All witches begin small in the translation by Ilse Strasmann ( ISBN 978-3-88884-008-1 ).

From 1983

Between 2002 and 2017

Between 2002 and 2017 the book series was published again in a translation by Ursula Kösters-Roth. This time the German titles were adapted according to the English original titles:

Some of the titles of this publication in the book series have also been set to music as audio books.

As of 2017

In 2017 new editions of all novels were published with new translations.
