A lousy witch ( English. The Worst Witch ) is a British children's series, which is based on the book series of the same name by Jill Murphy .
The series has four seasons of 13 episodes each. In England the series ran from 1998 to 2002. In Germany, the series ran from September 17, 1999 in Kika and Tabaluga tivi . From 2005 to 2007, a 26-part sequel with new actors was broadcast in two seasons of 13 episodes under the name The New Worst Witch .

The main character of the series is Mildred Hoppel, the worst witch in the school. Together with her friends, she goes to Grausteins Academy, a school for young witches. Mildred is not only bad at magic, she gets from one mess to the next. With that she falls out of favor with the strict teacher, Mrs. Harschmann. In the fourth season, Mildred Graustein graduated from academy and is coming to college in Cambridge. This season is also called The Lousy Witch in Cambridge . It was only thanks to her special ability to bring the things she drew to life that she got into college. There she finds new friends as well as old acquaintances and of course she gets from one mess to the next.

Mildred Hoppel
Mildred Hoppel is the lousy witch at Graustein's Academy.
Edith Nightshade
Edith Nightshade is a friend of Mildred. Her high-spirited pranks keep her in trouble from which Mildred has to save her. Edith reappears in the fourth season of the series when she visits Mildred at Weirdsister College . She's kicked out of college because of too many parties and now doesn't know where to go.
Mona moonlight
Mona Mondschein is a friend of Mildred Hoppel at Graustein's Academy.
Mrs. Harschmann
Ms. Harschmann is a very strict teacher at Graustein's Academy, who is primarily targeting Mildred Hoppel. She also has magical powers, which she uses to surprise students.
Esther Edel
Esther is Mildred's classmate and top of the class. You and Mildred have been enemies from day one at Graustein's Academy. Esther tries again and again to get Mildred into trouble so that she can be thrown out of school. In the fourth season, Esther also becomes a student at the Weirdsister College and, to top it all, has to share a room with Mildred.

New version 2017
The US streaming service Netflix is currently producing a new version of the series in co-production with ZDF and the British children's broadcaster CBBC . The first season was released in 2017. In the US, it was made available on Netflix on July 21, 2017. Clare Higgins took on the role of Mrs. Graustein. Other actors are Raquel Cassidy as Mrs. Harschmann, Wendy Craig as Mrs. Mouse and Bella Ramsey as Mildred Hoppel.
