Una Stubbs (born May 1, 1937 in Welwyn Garden City , Hertfordshire , United Kingdom , † August 2021 in Edinburgh ) was a British actress and dancer.

Life

Stubbs was born in 1937 to Clarence Reginald Stubbs and Angela Rawlinson in Welwyn Garden City , United Kingdom. She grew up in Hinckley . At the age of 14, she was sent to La Roche Dancing School in Slough by her mother .

She had her first major role in 1963 in the musical film Holiday for you and me alongside Cliff Richard . She had her breakthrough on British television in the mid-1960s with the sitcom Till Death Us Do Part , which is considered the model for the German television series Ein Herz und ein Seele . In it, Stubbs played the family daughter Rita, who was embodied in the German version by Hildegard Krekel . From 2010 she starred in the British crime series Sherlock at the side of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as the landlady Mrs. Hudson.

Private life

Stubbs had two siblings: a sister, Claire, two years older, and a brother, Paul, two years younger.

In 1958 she married the actor Peter Gilmore , with whom they adopted a son, Jason. In 1969 she divorced Gilmore and in the same year married the actor Nicky Henson, with whom she had two children: the two composers Christian (born December 25, 1971) and Joe Henson (born September 18, 1973). In 1975 she divorced Henson.

Una Stubbs died in Edinburgh in August 2021.
