Clare Frances Elizabeth Higgins (born November 10, 1955 in Bradford , England ) is a British film and stage actress .

Life

Higgins was born the second of five children into a teaching family. In her youth she was expelled from the convent school she attended. She ran away from home when she was 17, and when she was 19 she gave birth to a boy whom she put up for adoption.

Higgins began her acting career in the theater, where she was quickly hired for roles in London and New York's Broadway theaters . She began her film career in the role of Kitty Bennett in a TV miniseries adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice . Her second role was as Christine Manson in the television series The Citadel . She had her most important screen roles as the violent Julia in Hellraiser and its successor films.
