The inlet gate is a listed city gate in Mindelheim in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ). It got its name in the 16th century when access to the city during the night was only possible through this gate for a fee. The existing gate building was first mentioned in 1469.

architecture

The building is a plastered brick structure and consists of an approximately 19 meter high, square gate tower. The passage leads through a barrel vault , which is bordered by pointed arch gates. The south side of the gate to the city is free-standing. On this side, above the archway, there is a round arch niche with a wooden figure of a Mother of God from the beginning of the 16th century. There are paintings around the arched niche and around the windows. The Bavarian state coat of arms from 1623 to 1777 can be seen above the niche , underneath a tape with the inscription "SALVE REGINA MATER MISERICORDIAE". Above the passage, the four floors each have two rectangular windows on the south side. The windows in the bottom row are smaller than the three above. Immediately below the eaves there is a small central window in the middle. The tower is closed off by a crenellated crown projecting over a valley .
