Lonely Shepherd

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lonely Shepherd or The Lonely Shepherd , English The Lonely Shepherd , is an instrumental title by James Last , who became known in the recording with the Romanian pan flute player Gheorghe Zamfir .

background

Originally the title was intended for the album Filmmusik ohne Films , which should only contain original compositions by James Last. This album was never implemented, so Lonely Shepherd appeared on the 1977 James Last album Russia Memories . In the same year it was also released as a single, which reached number 22 in the music charts in Germany . With this recording Gheorghe Zamfir, who had already released numerous records, achieved his international breakthrough. Among other things, he accompanied James Last on his tour in 1978.

Lone Shepherd has been used several times as a film score. In 1979 it was used as the theme song for the six-part television series The Gold of the Desert (Golden Soak) and was used in the 1984 Oscar-nominated short film Paradise . In 2004, Quentin Tarantino used the recording as background music and credits for his film Kill Bill: Vol. 1 . Gheorghe Zamfir is incorrectly identified as the producer of the title on the DVD.

To this day, the title enjoys unbroken popularity and has been re-recorded by numerous artists. A version with a rap part by Lamar in 1999 and a version by Leo Rojas , who won the TV casting show Das Supertalent in December 2011, were successful.
