Lamar Thomas (born October 1975 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ), known as Lamar , is an American rapper whose biggest hit was the 1999 single Shine (David's Song) .
Career
Lamar Thomas lived in Pittsburgh until he was 20 years old. The son of a pastor and a pastor performed there as a soloist, but was also a rapper for The Obvious for a while. In 1995 he moved to Mannheim in Germany , where he performed in clubs and won the HipHop Masters Germany in 1997. This was followed by the debut single Too Many Nights produced by Da Flava Squad in 1998 , which rose to number 50 in the German charts .
The follow-up single Shine (David's Song) was based on a composition by Vladimir Cosma from 1978, which became known as the theme music of the ZDF four-part series The Adventures of David Balfour and was the Kelly Family’s first chart hit in 1980 . Lamar got vocal support for this production from Jemini. The song rose in early 1999 in the German (12th place), the Swiss (15th place) and the Austrian charts (30th place).
The next Lamar single, Fly (The Lonely Shepherd) , was also based on a film score. The original song Einsamer Hirte , written by James Last , accompanied the six-part The Gold of the Desert (Golden Soak) and was a 1977 hit by pan flutist Gheorghe Zamfir . The new version reached number 27 in Germany and number 31 in Switzerland in mid-1999. Lamar was denied further hit parade listings.
