Juan Leonardo Santillia Rojas (born October 18, 1984 ) is a pan flute player from Ecuador who won the fifth edition of the TV show Das Supertalent in 2011 .

Life

Rojas came to Spain from his homeland in 2000 while his family stayed in Ecuador. From there he kept going to Germany on a tourist visa. He lives with his Polish wife in Berlin , where he earns money as a street musician. A passerby made him aware of the talent show Das Supertalent . He applied for the fifth season in 2011 and was able to qualify for the finals. With an interpretation of El cóndor pasa with the panpipe and other South American wind instruments , he made it through the semifinals. There, a reunion of the musician with his mother, who had flown in from Ecuador, made for an emotional performance. At the finale on December 17, 2011, Rojas played the instrumental song Einsamer Hirte , written by James Last and a hit with Last and Gheorghe Zamfir in 1977 . The South American won the competition by a clear margin.

His winning song was published after the competition and reached number 48 in the German sales charts during Christmas week. On January 27, 2012 his first album with well-known instrumental pieces was released under the title Spirit of the Hawk . The album produced by Dieter Bohlen reached the top 5 of the charts in German-speaking countries and was awarded gold in Germany at the end of February 2012.

In 2017 Rojas took part in the RTL reality show Adam sucht Eva . In November he released his eponymous album "Leo Rojas", which was composed by Silvio d'Anza and Patrick Kronenberger .

In 2018 Rojas performed with his band in Iran. In June he received the YouTube Silver Award for reaching 100,000 subscribers. This was followed by sold-out concerts in Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, France and Poland. In November he received the Youtube Gold Award for reaching 1,000,000 subscribers. His videos have currently been viewed over 400,000,000 times.
