George Mumford
George Mumford (* in Rowan County , North Carolina , † December 31, 1818 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . In 1817 and 1818 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .
Career
George Mumford's date of birth is unknown. He attended public schools in his homeland and later began a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . He was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1810 and 1811 .
In the congressional election of 1816 , Mumford was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the tenth constituency of North Carolina, where he succeeded William Carter Love on March 4, 1817 . He was able to exercise this mandate in Congress until his death on December 31, 1818. He was buried in the Congress Cemetery in the federal capital, Washington , in the presence of President James Monroe . His mandate fell to Charles Fisher after a by-election .
