Edmond Spencer Blackburn

Edmond Spencer Blackburn (born September 22, 1868 in Boone , North Carolina , †  March 10, 1912 in Elizabethton , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1907 he represented the state of North Carolina twice in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edmond Blackburn attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1890, he began to work in Jefferson in this profession. He was also an administrative clerk with the North Carolina Senate in 1894 and 1895 . Blackburn was a member of the Republican Party . From 1896 to 1897 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Carolina , where he served as president in 1897. In 1898 he was assistant federal attorney .

In the congressional election of 1900 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Romulus Zachariah Linney on March 4, 1901 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Theodore F. Kluttz in 1902 , he was initially only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1903 . In 1904 Blackburn was re-elected to Congress, where he replaced Kluttz on March 4, 1905. Until March 3, 1907, he was able to spend another legislative period in the US House of Representatives. In 1906 he declined to run again.

After leaving Congress, Blackburn practiced as a lawyer in Greensboro . He died on March 10, 1912 in Elizabethton and was buried near his hometown of Boone.
