John Hill (politician, 1797)

John Hill (born April 9, 1797 in Germanton , Stokes County , North Carolina , †  April 24, 1861 in Raleigh , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1839 and 1841 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a good primary school education, John Hill studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill until 1816 . Then he worked as a planter . He also served as a clerk in the Stokes County District Court for 30 years. He also embarked on a political career. Between 1819 and 1823 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Carolina ; between 1823 and 1825 and between 1830 and 1831 he was a member of the State Senate . He became a member of the Democratic Party founded in 1828 .

In the congressional election of 1838 Hill was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Augustine Henry Shepperd on March 4, 1839 . Until March 3, 1841, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . In 1850 he became an administrative clerk with the North Carolina Senate. In 1861 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the state constitution. He died in Raleigh on April 24, 1861.
