William Francis Strudwick

William Francis Strudwick (born around 1765 near Wilmington , Province of North Carolina , †  1812 in North Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1796 and 1797 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The exact date of birth of William Strudwick is unknown as is his exact date and place of death. He was born on the Stag Park estate near Wilmington around 1765 and received limited schooling. He later became a farmer. At the same time he began a political career. In 1789 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the North Carolina Constitution. In 1792, 1793 and 1797 he was a member of the State Senate . In the late 1790s he joined the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton .

After the resignation of the MP Absalom Tatom he was elected at the by-election for the fourth seat of North Carolina as his successor in the US House of Representatives, where he took up his new mandate on November 28, 1796. By March 3, 1797 he ended the current legislative period in Congress . Between 1801 and 1803 Strudwick was a member of the House of Representatives from North Carolina . He died in 1812 and was buried on his Hawfields estate in Orange County .
