John Gaston Grant

John Gaston Grant (born January 1, 1858 in Henderson County , North Carolina , †  June 21, 1923 in Hendersonville , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1911 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Grant received a limited education and learned much of the subject matter himself. After that he worked in agriculture. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . He has described himself as a "radical Republican". In 1889 he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives. From 1892 to 1896 he was Sheriff's chief of police in Henderson County.

In the congressional elections of 1908 Grant was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded William T. Crawford on March 4, 1909 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat James M. Gudger in 1910 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1911 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Grant continued his previous agricultural activities. He died in Hendersonville on June 21, 1923.
