Ike Franklin Andrews (* 2 September 1925 in Bonlee , Chatham County , North Carolina ; † 10. May 2010 in Chapel Hill , North Carolina) was an American politician of the Democratic Party .

Andrews attended the Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union , Virginia from 1941 to 1942 . He then served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 . He received the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart . He then studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , where he received his Bachelor of Science (BS) in 1950 and his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in 1952 . He was inducted into the North Carolina bar in 1972 and practiced as a lawyer in Pittsboro .

In 1959 he became a Senator in the North Carolina Senate ; He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1961, 1967, 1969 and 1971 . For the Democratic Party, he was elected in the 93rd and five subsequent Congresses and was thus from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1985 a member of the House of Representatives of the United States . In 1984 his re-election to the 99th Congress failed when he lost to Republican Bill Cobey . Andrews last lived in Cary , North Carolina.
