Henry Selby Clark

Henry Selby Clark (born September 9, 1809 in Leechville , Beaufort County , North Carolina , †  January 8, 1869 in Greenville , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1847 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Clark attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1828 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession in Washington . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

Clark was an MP in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1834 to 1836 . In 1842 he was a district attorney. In the congressional elections of 1844 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Archibald Hunter Arrington on March 4, 1845 . Until March 3, 1847, he had only one term in Congress , which was marked by the events of the Mexican-American War .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Clark moved to Greenville, where he practiced as a lawyer. He died there on January 8, 1869.
