John M. Morehead

John Motley Morehead (born July 20, 1866 in Charlotte , North Carolina , †  December 13, 1923 there ) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1911 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Morehead attended the public schools of his home country and then the Bingham Military School of North Carolina in Mebane . He then studied until 1886 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He also attended a business school in Baltimore ( Maryland ). In the following years, Morehead worked as a clerk at Charlotte National Bank in his hometown. He later went on to trade in tobacco leaves in Durham . He was also active in crafts and agriculture.

Politically, Morehead was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1908 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded William Walton Kitchin on March 4, 1909 . Since he refused to run again in 1910, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1911 .

Between 1910 and 1916, Morehead was his party's state chairman for North Carolina. From 1916 to 1922 he was also a member of the Republican National Committee . Professionally, he mainly manufactured woolen goods, but also other everyday objects. He died on December 13, 1923 in his native Charlotte.
