William Davidson (politician)

William Davidson (born September 12, 1778 in Charleston , South Carolina , †  September 16, 1857 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1818 and 1821 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Davidson first attended schools in his home country and then came to Mecklenburg County in North Carolina with his parents in his youth , where he worked as a planter . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Federalist Party . In 1813 and between 1815 and 1819 he was a member of the North Carolina Senate .

After the resignation of Congressman Daniel Munroe Forney , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the eleventh seat of North Carolina , where he took up his new mandate on December 2, 1818. Since he was confirmed in the regular elections of 1818 , he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1821 . In 1820 he was not re-elected. In 1825 and again from 1827 to 1830 Davidson sat again in the State Senate. Otherwise he continued his previous activities in agriculture. He died on September 16, 1857 in Charlotte, where he had lived since 1820.
