Archibald Hunter Arrington Williams

Archibald Hunter Arrington Williams (born October 22, 1842 in Louisburg , Franklin County , North Carolina , †  September 5, 1895 in Chase City , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Archibald Williams was a nephew of Congressman Archibald Hunter Arrington (1809–1872). He attended public schools in his home country and then Emory College in Emory, Virginia. During the civil war he served as a soldier in the Confederation Army , in which he rose to captain. After the war, Williams worked in agriculture and commerce in Oxford . Later he also worked in the railway business. He was a planner and then president of the Oxford & Henderson Railroad . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1883 and 1885 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives .

In the 1890 congressional election , Williams was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded John M. Brower on March 4, 1891 . Since he was not confirmed in 1892, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1893 . He died in Chase City on September 5, 1895 and was buried in Oxford.
