Douglas Carmichael "Mike" McIntyre (born August 6, 1956 in Lumberton , Robeson County , North Carolina ) is an American politician . From 1997 to 2015 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mike McIntyre attended Lumberton High School until 1974 and then studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . After a subsequent law degree at the same university and his admission as a lawyer in 1981, he began to work in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1980 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention , at which US President Jimmy Carter was nominated for re-election. From 1987 to 1989 he was a member of the youth commission of his state, afterwards he worked on the family commission until 1991.

In the 1996 congressional elections , McIntyre was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Charlie Rose on January 3, 1997 . After eight re-elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2015. Contrary to the federal trend in favor of the Republican Party , it was also confirmed in the 2010 elections. He prevailed with 53.7 percent of the vote against Ilario Pantano. In 2014 he decided not to run again. McIntyre has served on the Agriculture Committee , the Armed Forces Committee, and the Committee on Security and Cooperation in Europe and four sub-committees. In January 2011, he was one of three Democratic MPs who voted to repeal the health reform passed the previous year.
