Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe

The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe ( English Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe , CSCE ), also known as US Helsinki Commission , an independent agency of the US government . It was established in 1976 by the US Congress to monitor and promote compliance with the Helsinki Final Act and other obligations of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The commission normally consists of nine members each from the Senate and the House of Representatives , plus one delegate each from the US Department of State, the Department of Defense and the Department of Commerce. Chairman of the House of Representatives for the State of Florida , Alcee Hastings ( Democratic Party ) , has been since 2019 .
