James W. Reid

James Wesley Reid (born June 11, 1849 in Wentworth , Rockingham County , North Carolina , †  January 1, 1902 in Lewiston , Idaho ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1886 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a good primary school education, James Reid attended Emory and Henry College in Emory ( Virginia ) until 1869 . After that he worked as a teacher at this school for some time. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1873, he began to practice in Wentworth in this profession. Between 1874 and 1884 Reid was a Chamberlain in Rockingham County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . After the resignation of the MP Alfred Moore Scales , he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC when he was due for the by-election for the fifth seat of North Carolina , where he took up his new mandate on January 28, 1885. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on December 31, 1886 .

In 1887, James Reid moved to Lewiston, then Idaho Territory , where he worked as a lawyer. In 1889 he was vice president of the constituent assembly of the future state of Idaho. Since 1893 he served as the curator of Lewiston State Normal College . In the years 1896 and 1900 Reid was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions , each of which William Jennings Bryan was nominated as a presidential candidate. He died in Lewiston on January 1, 1902.
