Leonidas D. Robinson

Leonidas Dunlap Robinson (born April 22, 1867 in Anson County , North Carolina , †  November 7, 1941 in Wadesboro , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1921 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Leonidas Robinson attended public schools in his home country. In 1888 he moved to Wadesboro. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1889, he began to work there in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1888 and 1941 he took part in all democratic party conventions at the state level. In 1912, 1920 and 1924 he was also a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . From 1890 to 1893 Robinson served as mayor of the city of Wadesboro. He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1894 and 1900 . From 1901 to 1910 he was a public prosecutor in the 13th judicial district of his state; In 1910 he became president of the Bank of Wadesboro .

In the 1916 congressional election , Robinson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Robert N. Page on March 4, 1917 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1921 . These were initially determined by the events of the First World War . The 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified in 1918 and 1919 .

In 1920 Robinson renounced another congressional candidacy. In the following years he worked in banking and agriculture. He died on November 7, 1941 in Wadesboro.
