Romulus Zachariah Linney

Romulus Zachariah Linney (born December 26, 1841 in Rutherford County , North Carolina , †  April 15, 1910 in Taylorsville , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1901 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Romulus Linney attended public schools in his home country, as well as York's Collegiate Institute and Doctor Millen's School . During the Civil War he served in the Confederation Army . After being wounded in the Battle of Chancellorsville , he had to quit military service. After returning to North Carolina, he continued his education at Doctor Millen's School . Then he worked in agriculture. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1868, he began to work in Taylorsville in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He served in the North Carolina Senate in 1870, 1873, and 1882 .

In the congressional elections of 1894 Linney was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded William H. Bower on March 4, 1895 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1901 . During this time the Spanish-American War fell . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Romulus Linney withdrew from politics. He died in Taylorsville on April 15, 1910.
