Joseph Pearson (politician)

Joseph Pearson (born 1776 in Rowan County , North Carolina , †  October 27, 1834 in Salisbury , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1809 and 1815 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Pearson first attended preparatory schools. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Salisbury in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Federalist Party . He was a member of the House of Representatives from North Carolina in 1804 and 1805 .

In the congressional elections of 1808 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Evan Shelby Alexander on March 4, 1809 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1815 . These were shaped by the events of the British-American War . In 1809 he dueled with John George Jackson (1777-1825), a congressman from Virginia , who was wounded in the hip.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Joseph Pearson withdrew from politics. He died in Salisbury on October 27, 1834.
