Hallett Sydney Ward

Hallett Sydney Ward (born August 31, 1870 in Gatesville , Gates County , North Carolina , †  March 31, 1956 in Washington , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1925 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Hallett Ward attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his admission to the bar in 1893, he began to work in Winton in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1899 and 1901 Ward was a member of the North Carolina Senate ; in 1902 and 1903 he was Mayor of the Parish of Plymouth . From 1904 to 1910 he served as a prosecutor in the first judicial district of his state. From 1904 he was resident in Washington in Beaufort County and worked there as a lawyer.

In the 1920 congressional elections , Ward was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded John Humphrey Small on March 4, 1921 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1925 . In 1924 he decided not to run again. After leaving the US House of Representatives, Ward returned to work as a lawyer. In 1931 he moved to the State Senate again. He died on March 31, 1956 in Washington, where he was also buried.
