Jesse Slocumb

Jesse Slocumb (born 1780 in Spring Bank , Wayne County , North Carolina , †  December 20, 1820 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1820 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jesse Slocumb attended the schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture as a planter . He also held various local offices. Between 1802 and 1808 he was the Register of Deeds in his home district. Politically, Slocumb was a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton .

In the congressional elections of 1816 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the fourth constituency of North Carolina, where he succeeded William J. Gaston on March 4, 1817 . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on December 20, 1820 . He died of pleurisy he contracted on a trip back to the federal capital.
