David Funderburk (1995)

David Funderburk (born April 28, 1944 in Hampton , Virginia ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 1997 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Funderburk attended Aberdeen High School and then studied at Wake Forest University between 1965 and 1967 . He then continued his education until 1974 with a philosophy degree at the University of South Carolina . In the following years Funderburk taught history at various universities, including as a full professor at Campbell University in Buies Creek . He has also received several honorary doctorates. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

Between 1981 and 1985 he succeeded Orison Rudolph Aggrey as the United States' Ambassador to Romania . In 1987 he published a book in which he wrote down his experiences in this country. In 1986 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary election for nomination as a candidate for the US Senate election . In the 1994 congressional elections , Funderburk was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Tim Valentine on January 3, 1995 . Since 1901 he was the first Republican to represent this district in the House of Representatives. Since he was defeated by the Democrat Bob Etheridge in 1996 , he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1997 .

Today David Funderburk lives in Southern Pines . He is a member of the Senior Citizens League and a government advisor. He is also a faculty member at Oradea University in Romania.
