Frederick K. "Fred" Heineman (born December 28, 1929 in New York City , New York , †  March 20, 2010 in Raleigh , North Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1995 and 1997 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Fred Heineman attended Mt. St. Michael High School and then various colleges in his home country. He also studied at the University of Bridgeport . Between 1951 and 1954 he was a soldier in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War ; from 1955 to 1979 he worked in the police force in New York. He then moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was chief of police between 1979 and 1994.

Politically, Heineman was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1994 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded David Price on January 3, 1995 , whom he had defeated in the elections. Since he lost again to Price in 1996, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1997 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Heineman withdrew from politics. He died of natural causes on March 20, 2010 at his Raleigh home. His nickname was "The Chief".
