Bill Hendon

William Martin "Bill" Hendon (born November 9, 1944 in Asheville , North Carolina , † June 20, 2018 in Forest City , North Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 1987 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

Bill Hendon attended the public schools of his home country and then graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School until 1962 . He then studied until 1968 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville . Until 1970 he was a member of the faculty of this university. From 1970 to 1980 he worked as a private businessman.

Politically, Hendon became a member of the Republican Party . In the 1980s, his congressional election campaigns with his political opponent James M. Clarke of the Democratic Party became known nationwide. In 1980 , Hendon was elected to the 11th constituency of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded V. Lamar Gudger on January 3, 1981 . Since he narrowly lost to Clarke in 1982, he was only able to complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1983 . Two years later, he was also able to beat Clarke very narrowly and win back his old mandate in Congress, where he spent another term between January 3, 1985 and January 3, 1987. In 1986 he was again defeated by Clarke.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Bill Hendon worked for the American Defense Institute in the federal capital, Washington.
