Charles Biddle Shepard

Charles Biddle Shepard (born December 5, 1808 in New Bern , North Carolina , †  October 25, 1843 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Shepard attended private schools in his hometown of New Bern and then studied until 1827 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1828, he began to work in this profession in New Bern. At the same time he embarked on a political career. He was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1831 and 1832 .

In the mid-1830s, Shepard joined the Whig Party . During his first tenure in Congress, he joined the Democrats . In the congressional election of 1836 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of North Carolina , where he succeeded Jesse Speight on March 4, 1837 . After re-election as a candidate for the Democratic Party, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1841 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Charles Shepard practiced law again. He died on October 25, 1843 in New Bern.
